Residential Safety & Security Workshop

Held by CID Executive Director Kelli McCrary, the Residential Safety & Security Workshop provides guidance to Downtown residents on how to practice standard safety measures and remain aware of their surroundings. During these workshops Kelli will present up-to-date crime activity reports, highlight the Downtown CID Safety Officer Program and how to utilize it, share current CID safety efforts, provide simple tips pedestrians can utilize to remain alert, and introduce representatives from local safety and security partners to provides updates – including SLMPD. These workshops are designated for residential building groups, not individuals.

Presenter’s Credentials

When it comes to personal safety, it is key to not only depend on law enforcement officers and street-level safety measures but your own intelligence. Residents will receive personal safety guidance from trained professionals which they can easily implement into their daily routine. Along with representatives from SLMPD and The City’s Finest (TCF), our Executive Director has extensive training and experience in personal safety measures. Kelli obtained a Master’s Degree in Business and Organizational Security Management, and is also a Certified Trainer in Active Shooter and Intruder Response. Additionally, she has 25 plus years of experience in law enforcement and the private security sector, including time as an Intelligence Liaison Officer for the Missouri State Fusion Center.

What to Expect

The workshop is typically 1 – 1.5 hours and can be held in person or via video conference. Residents will receive an overview of the CID and its safety initiatives, current crime hotspots, and the CID’s secondary security officers’ activity reports. The purpose of sharing this information is to make residents more aware of their surroundings and share how to best react to potentially unsafe situations. For example, simple precautionary measures can be taken to increase personal safety such as parking in well-lit areas or taking out one earbud while walking at night as to hear upcoming foot or vehicle traffic. We encourage participants to remain engaged throughout the workshop and ask questions. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in poll questions from the host(s) related to security best practices and awareness.

If you would like to schedule a workshop for your residential building, please contact webmaster@downtownstlcid.org or submit a request through our contact form.
